Firstly an important factor to consider in engaging anybody to do design work for you is that of responsibility.  By law a person can only be an architect if they are on the register of architects maintained by the Architects’ Registration Board (ARB) and an architect must have Professional Indemnity Insurance.  An architect can also be a member of Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA), which has its own code of conduct and promotes the work of the profession on a wider stage.

On a practical level the RIBA sets out a Work Plan that architects are advised to follow.  It breaks down a project into Work Stages.  As a client you can engage me for as much or as little of the Plan as you wish.  Every job is unique but briefly however my services could include:

  • taking your brief prepare initial masterplanning sketches
  • preparing sketch proposals
  • preparing drawings and other information required for a planning application
  • preparing drawings and notes for a building regulations application
  • preparing drawings and specification notes for pricing by a builder
  • putting in place a building contract and administering it

Please get in touch with me to discuss your requirements.
